I don’t often step in front of the camera — most days are spent between site visits, sketchbooks, material samples, or client calls. This shoot was a rare moment to pause and reflect on the journey. Romano Interior Architecture is built on my background in architecture, a lifelong appreciation for history and design, and a belief that a home should reflect both character and quiet confidence.  Design is never just about how things look — it's about how they make you feel, live, and connect. Our client wanted a kitchen perfect for entertaining — dramatic yet welcoming. We kept the original arched windows that beautifully frame the garden view, and let the deep lacquered eucalyptus cabinetry contrast against striking Calacatta marble surfaces. Simple pendants float above the island to preserve the sense of light and airiness. Every detail was chosen to feel refined but effortless — a space that works hard, but looks like it was always meant to be there.

When we started designing our office, we wanted every texture to feel like us. Swiveling boucle chairs in the meeting area invite relaxed, creative conversations with clients. We softened the space with one of our favourite Dedar fabrics — a little warmth and a lot of character. The champagne-finished metallic bookshelf curves and catches the light, dividing the workstations with elegance. Walnut accents in the task lighting and chairs bring a quiet richness throughout. My desk chair is leather — I chose it because it wears beautifully and gets better with age. It’s also just incredibly comfortable… and yes, it looks great too. Nothing loud. Bringing the outdoors to life For this barn-style home with a vast garden and sunken patios, we infused a touch of Mediterranean inspiration with a relaxed, bohemian feel. We crafted three distinct patio zones: A serene reading and relaxation nook under a climate-controlled pergola, fully clad in iroko wood with a bespoke panel for a future wisteria to flourish. A cozy firepit area with built-in storage, seating, and even a special spot for the cats. A dining space perfect for gathering and entertaining. The sunken patios became lush urban jungles, with our incredible landscape team carefully lowering large specimens—yes, including a tree on wheels! Furniture was a mix of bespoke creations and dream pieces from Gubi, Ethimo, and Teporia Italia. From layout to hard finishes and landscape design, we loved creating these spaces. And the best part? Our clients now live practically outdoors. Restoring original architectural features is never a quick fix—it’s a slow, meticulous process that requires patience, expertise, and a deep respect for craftsmanship. One of the many restoration projects I’ve personally overseen was a grand staircase in a Mayfair townhouse. Like so many period properties, it had seen layers of additions over the years, many made with little regard for the original materials. Some elements were severely damaged, others structurally compromised. Months were spent carefully stripping back unsuitable finishes, repairing what could be saved, and recreating details where the integrity was compromised. All of this had to be done while keeping pace with a major construction site—coordinating with other trades to ensure the work remained undisturbed. The final colour and finish? That was entrusted to a specialist from Italy, who brought the staircase back to life with incredible precision. This is why I love working with historic buildings—the challenge of balancing preservation and reinvention, of respecting history while shaping a new future. Transforming spaces with purpose: This West London project required one of the rooms to have a triple-function room to serve as an office, guest room, and gym. We designed a bespoke unit with a textured natural wood veneer finish, integrating storage for bed linens, bedside tables, and mobile drawers for hand weights that can be easily taken outdoors for exercise. Once the bed is folded, the space transitions seamlessly for yoga or a morning workout before the workday begins and turns into an office. This wasn’t as easy as it looks—the design and technical execution had to work within the challenges of a basement concrete structure. But the result?
